In reply to Frank Ogden's post. Frank just like you, my memory is failing! But, Ben Everett & I got made up to L/sgt the same day. Was attached to No2 company in Northern Ireland & Sharjah. Not sure if I remember you, the name sounds very familiar, also thoght that it was Jim Hardy not Hardicre. Please drop me a line @ j.wharton@shaw.ca.

Bill Coles, who lost his arm was my Mother's brother. His mother was Edith Maria Ash (died 1937) and his father was Francis Coles (died 1947) of Bath, England. My mother was Mary Ann and his sister was Ivy. My Mother always told me that he lost his arm at Dieppe. I'm a Canadian born to Mary Ann Coles and Allan Murray of the Newfoundland Squadron of the RAF. My mother, Ann and Aunt Ivy died a few years after your father. My father, Allan, is still alive. Ray, you have a Canadian family that would very much like to hear from you. We are currently researching our background.

Maybe, my Father Sergeant WH Coles King's Co. 1st Batt Guards Armoured Division lost his arm in a (grenade?) attack by Fallschirmjager on his Carrier in Normandy on the 9th or 10th of August 1944 during a recce. My mother told me that he was accompanied by a Sergeant Twelvetrees from the Isles of Scilly. My Father often wondered what happened to him
